What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a chronic disease that affects young women of reproductive age (10-15 years) up to 35-50 years of age (although a small percentage of cases maintain symptoms during menopause).

In endometriosis, the endometrium implants, for reasons that are not known for certain, outside its usual place. Because it is not in place, the period has no outlet and therefore stays inside the body. These menstrual debris are responsible for the pain experienced by women suffering from this disease. In addition, this sticky fluid causes adhesions, i.e., organs such as the intestines or ovaries become stuck together, contributing to pain and infertility.

Symptoms of endometriosis

  • Pain
  • Fertility disorders
  • Alterations in menstruation

Where to go

Endometriosis affects the physical, biological, social and mental spheres of women. The physical sphere is not exclusively gynecological: complete diagnosis is sometimes difficult and specialization is necessary to obtain an accurate map of the extent of the disease.

It should be treated in a multidisciplinary way in order to meet all the needs of patients with health professionals (expert gynecologists and other medical specialists), fertility experts, sports, nutrition and psychology.

I recommend you to read the book ENDOMETRIOSIS, by Dr. Francisco Carmona (Guide to understand what it is and how to take care of yourself), where you will find all the information about this disease: what it is, symptoms, diagnosis, treatments, fertility, emotional impact, lifestyle, where to go?
